Let customers speak for us
Leading the way – Sharing our love of Ammolite
Founded from a passion for paleontology and an entrepreneurial spirit – in 1979 Rene Vandervelde purchased a young business from the Kormos family and named it KORITE. Rene’s vision was to introduce the world to the beautiful and captivating ammolite. Discovered in 1906 by the Geological Survey of Canada, Rene had heard of ammolite and was fascinated by its history, rarity and cultural significance. Indigenous Canadians refer to ammolite as the “buffalo stone”, others refer to ammolite as the “energy stone” or “spirit stone”. Ammolite comes from the fossilization of ammonite cephalopods, which are found around the world yet, only in the Bearpaw Formation of southern Alberta did they mineralize and become the rare and colourful gemstone. To this day, KORITE is the leading ammolite producer and top Canadian jewellery brand, delighting customers internationally.
