I am in love with this piece. I have wanted to own an Ammolite jewelry item for a very long time, and thanks to the amazing savings offered during holiday season sales ($400 piece for only $150!), I was finally able to justify ordering one because the price was so reasonable.
The setting alone on this ring is absolutely gorgeous. The square, white sapphire encrusted halo surrounding the ammolite stone is shaped to look like “frills”, and it adds an extremely unique and feminine touch to the piece. I’ve never seen a setting like this before in my life, and I’m here for it!
Now, the stone itself was a very slight (like, minuscule) disappointment, given that so many reviews on other pieces that have standard stones boasted about how their Ammolites came with very obvious secondary colours, despite being standard grade. So I was extremely hopeful that I would be able to have the same experience, but alas, the stone I received is pretty much entirely green from all angles. That is the only reason the review is four stars rather than five….
BUT - with that being said, for a solid green stone, this thing is STUNNING. It basically looks like it’s glowing the minute a light source hits it. It also doesn’t hurt that my favorite colour is green, either. And this is a green like no other. It’s like a piece of uranium and a piece of tiger’s eye had a baby. That’s the best way I can think to describe it. It would put a $10,000 emerald to shame. It looks almost luminescent when you move it around under a light, and because of that, I catch myself staring at it constantly. It’s mesmerizingly beautiful.
I do also catch a tiny hint of orange in the upper left corner and a tiny bit of blue that flashes from the bottom right corner when the ring is viewed at certain angles, but they are super small and not noticeable unless you’re really looking for it. One review I read said that non-faceted stones tend to offer a better view of the stone’s colours, so the facets may be camouflaging some of those blue and red/orange undertones as well.
So to sum up…
Is this ring worth it for the price?
WITHOUT A DOUBT.
Is the setting unique, beautiful, and flattering?
Does the Ammolite still deliver a “wow factor” despite being standard grade and only offering one colour?
A THOUSAND TIMES, YES.
Is the overall product worth the price I paid?
NO. IT’S WORTH FOUR TIMES WHAT I PAID.
Did this initial Ammolite purchase that only offered one colour impress me so much that it lead me to run right back to Korite to purchase a higher grade piece so I could have something with an additional colour?
IT SURE AS HECK DID (thanks to the 12 days of xmas promo that allowed me to get an A grade stone for the same price as a discounted standard!)
Will I be back again when I hit my next bonus at work to purchase a AA grade piece so I can get all three colours in one stone?
WITHOUT A DOUBT.
I’m officially hooked on Ammolite, and I thank Korite for having these amazing sales that have allowed me to finally realize a dream I’ve had for a long time. I also love that I get to support a Canadian-owned company in the process!
I couldn’t be happier with the product and I’ll be a customer for life.
(Shipping was also super fast and that’s always great too!)
