A Heritage Unearthed: KORITE’s New Leadership Brings Ammolite to Life

A Legacy Rooted in Indigenous Heritage

KORITE has always been more than a gemstone brand; it’s a journey into Canada’s ancient landscapes, where vibrant Ammolite gems lie waiting beneath the surface. Now, as Buffalo Rock Mining takes the reins, this story gains new life, driven by a blend of respect for Indigenous values and a spirit of innovation. This fresh chapter for KORITE is led by Tracy and Beth Day Chief of the Kainai Nation, who have a deep-rooted connection to the land and a vision that embraces the heritage of ammonite—known among the Blackfoot people as “Iniskim” or Buffalo Stone.

In an industry increasingly focused on transparency, KORITE’s “mine-to-market” model is now overseen directly by the miners. This offers a rare level of authenticity and integrity while embracing sustainable practices that honour the land.

From Earth to Art: Ethical Mining Practices

With over 15 years in Alberta’s Bearpaw Formation, Buffalo Rock Mining operates with a deep respect for both the environment and the cultural significance of Ammonite. For Tracy Day Chief, this work is about more than unearthing a beautiful gemstone. “When we mine ammolite, we’re bringing a part of Mother Earth’s history to light,” Tracy explains. “Our goal is to share that story in a way that’s meaningful, connecting people to the beauty of ammolite and the heritage behind it.”

This approach reflects a broader movement within the gemstone industry toward “slow luxury”—where high-quality, ethically-sourced materials meet artisanal craftsmanship. Every piece of ammolite jewellery from KORITE embodies the patience of natural formation over millions of years and the careful touch of skilled hands that bring it to life.

A Visionary Leader with a Personal Connection

Canadian Luxury with a Commitment to Transparency

This new direction also taps into a growing interest in Canadian luxury brands that emphasize authentic heritage and quality. KORITE’s presence on the world stage reflects Canada’s high ethical standards for mining, and Amarjeet is committed to expanding the brand in a way that balances commercial success with ethical practices and community respect.

Under her leadership, KORITE aims to foster partnerships and traceable sourcing practices that offer today’s customers the transparency they value, assuring them of both the beauty and responsible origins of each gemstone.

The Sacred Stone of Prosperity

In addition to being a luxury item, ammolite holds unique cultural and symbolic significance. The Blackfoot people consider it a sacred stone of prosperity, and today, it continues to be sought not only for its captivating colours but for the connection it offers to nature, history, and spirit. For KORITE, each piece of ammolite carries this legacy, inviting new owners to share in the story of an ancient fossil that has journeyed from Canada’s ancient seabeds to jewellery boxes around the world.
